Political party emerges in Southwater, a sign of functional government

In the breakaway nation of Southwater, a political party has emerged in its legislature today. Such activity is taken as a sign of an operational government, spelling trouble for Alsann’s security and the legitimacy of its claims over the region.

The leadership of the Social Democrats (Socialdemokratiet) party announced their formation via a statement sent to the Alsane News Service. Its creation makes it the first, and leading, political group in the Crown Council. Two members have been appointed to the Council by its prince, af den Sydhavn. The identities of the Social Democrats’ leaders are not publicly known, and they have just one of the Councillors.

The Social Democrats have an ideology of social democracy, with additional influences from green politics and what they term ‘Danish integrationism’, referring to increasing the effects of Danish culture in Southwatrian society. This is seen, for example, in the party’s alternate name (Socialdemokratiet) and their advocacy to introduce an official Danish name (Fyrstendømmet Sydvand).

The party has not offered a view of Alsann but has said they support the Notice of Secession which asked Alsann to be a peaceful entity. Meanwhile, the opinions of notable Alsanians are largely unchanged by the news, ranging from apathy to frustration to aggression. As a sign of functioning government, it could lead to security issues for Alsann as additional structure means a stronger state. The government continues its advice for citizens travelling through the affected regions (Ibisca and Swan Coast) to stay vigilant, keep safe and report all incidents to Alsane authorities.
