Alsann experiences unprecedented constitutional crisis

Beginning Saturday, 3 June, Alsann is experiencing a constitutional crisis unprecedented in its history.

Former Premier, Ozren C, tendered a resignation by text message to the Officer-General. Choosing to retain his Flindersian town of Austeria as a private citizen, he expressed no desire to engage in government. This cannot be dealt with by constitutional means for a few reasons. Here’s why.

The first thing to know about Alsann’s constitutional process is that it is uncodified and, in some cases, even unwritten. The fact that it is not a singular body of text means that it is not only harder to track, but gaps are also readily available and often not visible.

In the case of the Premier’s resignation, it should not be too hard to follow the established method of selecting a Premier if it was not for the fact that his former seat of Flinders remains empty and uncontested, a separate matter speaking to the ongoing inactivity crisis. This means not the entire Federal Council will be represented in the decision-making.

It is known, definitely, that other members of the government are working to patch some of the issues represented here. No solutions have yet been publicly presented, however they are likely to come starting in these following days.

Beyond the constitutional matter, this marks an end of a journey for the former Premier. One of Concordia’s first citizens and its third landholder, he was elected to lead the National Cabinet in March 2022. When Flinders was founded, and later nations, he remained the President. Finally, he was brought into Alsann at founding, becoming the nation’s first premier and cementing his place in Alsane history. We wish him the best.

Finally, a message from the government, asking if you could spend just a little more time each week or each month making a little contribution to Alsann. It is engagement like this that keeps our country and culture thriving.
